gold.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the root, the problem is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>India depends heavily on imported fossil fuels and gold.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A geopolitical shock (West Asia conflict, Iran\u2013US coal\u2011based, even though renewables are rising fast; coal generation actually fell 3% in 2025 for only the second time in half a century, but coal still dominates.<a><\/a><a but their batteries require intense mining and manufacturing, and their climate benefit depends heavily on how clean the grid is.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn11\"><sup>[11]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn12\"><sup>[12]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn13\"><sup>[13]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn14\"><sup>[14]<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India\u2019s EV narrative often ignores the reality alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>The EV Question: Why \u201cGreen\u201d Isn\u2019t That Simple<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You mentioned your disagreement with EVs being called \u201cgreen\u201d\u2014and the research supports your intuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>EVs emit less during use, but battery manufacturing is carbon\u2011intensive and resource\u2011heavy.<a><\/a><a
